Wartime recollections: Uncovering silver linings In Maine author’s newest book

Sometimes writers spend years looking for their next book, and sometimes it finds them. Gay M. Grant, Maine author and congressional representative, spent years gardening, baking and sipping tea next to her British “mother-daughter-sister-friend,” Patricia Philips, before she realized that her second book, Destination Unknown, released in 2014, would be about Pat.

A limited run, hand-made book based in Maine

This year has been a big one for Maine fiction writer Douglas W. Milliken. He won the Glimmer Train short story competition and released three new books: a novel and two collections of short stories. These latter collections have been all about life in Maine and he even went so far as to self-publish his latest title, Hot White Sun, in a small-batch, hand-bound, limited edition that’s only available here in Portland.
