The venue Aura, formerly Asylum, has hosted some pretty impressive headlining acts since their reopening. That’s good for their pocketbook, which is important enough after the expense of a complete remodeling and multi-floor addition. It looks like they are recouping quite well. If you shook your magic eight ball after asking, “Will Aura be a smashing success?” it would probably come up, “All signs point to cha-ching!” So, out of some sense of kindness, honor, fairness, or just plain fondness for pets, those fine folks are putting on a major fundraising event for the ARLGP (Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland).
It’s the 2017 Fur Ball, and it takes place on Friday, June 9, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., of course at Aura (121 Center St). Tickets are $60 per person at http://events.readysetauction.com/animalrefugeleaguegreaterportlan/furball (note the missing D in Portland, if you are typing in the URL).
The hype so far is that this is going to be the ‘party of the year.’ And who doesn’t love getting all gussied up and showing off their conversational flair, surrounded by glitter and glam? That’s right, it’s the real deal, cocktail attire encouraged. Go and enjoy Fur Ball Signature Cocktails poured by Ice Pik Vodka and tasty desserts provided by The Marshmallow Cart, Dean’s Sweets, and East Coast Vegan Treats. And that’s just the beginning. Word is that the items up for silent auction this year are even better than last year’s. Organizers are pushing for a jump in attendance numbers as well, asking Portlanders to jack the figure up from 300 to 400. We’d call that a party, wouldn’t you? Add some rockin’ live tunes and emcees Katie Sampson and Charlie Lopresti from WGME, and, indirectly, the pooches and kitties over at ARLGP are bound to spend this year a little better off. The organization helps around 4,000 animals a year, so remember your generosity and participate!
