Mayor Kate Snyder announced the formation of an ethics committee Monday night, calling it an “oversight” from their inaugural meeting where other committees were populated.
The Council already has an ethics committee, but will now repeal it in favor of a new one. That’s because one of the proposals from the Charter Commission that passed in November was the formation of an independent ethics commission, as well as the Council drafting a code of ethics.
The item passed by voters requires the Council to adopt a code proposed by the new commission, replacing an existing code drafted in May to address ethics complaints received by the council and advises on potential conflicts of interests.
The ethics committee’s new members are Snyder, Fournier and Councilors Regina Phillips and Roberto Rodriguez. Members of the council’s other standing committees were named earlier this month.
