Nick brings a long background in newspapers, both in the alternative press that was exemplified by the former Phoenix, and later at the Bangor Daily News where he was a feature writer and covered the city of Portland. He is also the former editor of Dispatch magazine, an offshoot of Down East magazine.

Nick grew up in Old Orchard Beach and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where he studied writing. He is a longtime resident of Portland, where he lives with his partner, Mallory, and their 15 month-old daughter, Leoni.

In just a few short days here, he has brought skillful editing and many creative ideas for this newspaper.

Nick also has a passion for theater, and is an ensemble member at Mad Horse Theatre Company in South Portland, where he directed a well-received production of ‘Dying to Know’ in December, 2021. He will be acting in their upcoming production of ‘Straight White Men’ by the playwright Young Jean Lee.

While you’d think that all this would keep him too busy, he pursues other hobbies, including baseball and mushroom foraging.

We’re very pleased that he’s joined us.
