Edgar Allen Beem must know I like him and respect him, but his column on the Portland Press Herald and the Maine Sunday Telegram was just goofy (“The Universal Notebook: Black and white and dead all over,” Jan. 5). Instead of whining, he should, like many Mainers, be damn happy to still have a local paper.
